November 16-22, 2025 "I'm not who I used to be." Simba While we were always open to adventure, a mission to Uganda was certainly unexpected; we'd perhaps envisioned an African safari instead.  Now after two and a half months in Gulu, we've found our stride in the Uganda Kampala Mission.  We truly feel that a life time of callings, experiences in the church and in the work place has prepared us for this missionary assignment. It is a  testament to the Lord's divine plan. He understands our limits and our needs and what we have to offer and gave us a custom fit as far as a misison goes at this time in our lives.  As our friend Judy wisely predicted, "It will change you." She earns the gold star-- She was right. "Behold I have seen your sacrifices, and will forgive all your sins; I have seen your sacrifices in obedience to that which I have told you." Doctrine and Covenants 132:50 The people here in Uganda are poor, many work all day to make...

Life is an Adventure   Nov 10-Nov 15, 2025 Baboons along the highway.  We are learning that grocery shopping can be an adventure.  When we find something we like we should stock up on it because once it is gone from the shelf it could really be all gone.  For example, we had white chili with 2 cans of white beans but now the store has no more white beans so that is off the menu until who knows when.  Some of the fruits and vegetables are the same way.  No more pineapple for now.  Who knows what will be next??                                                                         A taste of home We did find a good wood fired pizza place.  When we talked with the owner he said he recognized our truck but we are different missionaries.  I guess we found the pizza...

Stakes of Zion This flower reminds me of the idea of a stake as in the Stakes of Zion. Zion is defined as the pure in heart. It was announced at district council meeting on Sunday that the upcoming District Conference on December 6 &7 will be the marker for changing from a district to a stake.  This is exciting news for the people in the Gulu District and for President Bell. Information for those of you who are curious about the meaning of using the word stake: Once a Stake is organized with a Stake President he has the priesthood keys to preside over the the people in that geographical area.  Isaiah described latter-day Zion as a tent or a tabernacle secured by stakes (Isaiah 33:20; 54:2). Each stake is composed of multiple wards and is led by a stake president. The Lord establishes stakes for the gathering together; of His people and for a defense and a refuge from the world.   "Awake, Awake; put on they strength, O Zion" Isaiah 52: 1 Adventure and New Friends ...

The Work Rolls Forth Monday Oct 27-Saturday Nov 1, 2025     An Adungu or Ugandan bow harp. We had a casual preparation day and went looking at local craft art to get some ideas for the future.  We didn't see much that caught our eye.  We did buy some Christmas ornaments and then ate food at a restaurant as a marker for serving our mission for two months.   Elder Kaiser had a hamburger and fries and orange Fanta, Sister Kaiser had a curry dish with rice and a strawberry shake. We taught an online temple preparation class for one of the members who is out of town doing his medical internship.  He does great in the classes and has completed them and will go to the temple in November.  We are excited for him.  Then we had our weekly training with the Ences and learned about English Connect for the missionaries.  Those who do not start their mission as English speakers work through a program to improve their English language skills....
